Unlike its predecessors, Donkey Kong 3 swaps out platforming for a more action-packed shooter-style gameplay. This time, players control Stanley the Bugman, a greenhouse keeper who must protect his flowers from rampaging insects—all while fending off Donkey Kong himself.

Spray, dodge, and survive

Armed with an insect repellent spray, Stanley must push Donkey Kong upward while battling waves of attacking bugs. The game features fast-paced action with a unique vertical-scrolling mechanic, making it stand out from the earlier entries in the series.

The pulse line edition

Released in 1984 as part of the Pulse Line series, this version of Donkey Kong 3 carries the distinctive red stripe on its packaging, marking it as an early Famicom release. While not as well-known as the first two Donkey Kong games, it remains a fascinating departure from the classic barrel-jumping formula.
