Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, along with its counterpart on the 3DS, is a crossover fighting video game, and the fourth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series.
The series is renowned for its non-traditional fighting style where players use different attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena. A varied selection of characters, items, music, and stages from various Nintendo franchises are also available, as well as from several third-party franchises, all adding to the fun and frenzied nature of the gameplay.
New features include having up to eight players fighting at a time on the Wii U version, support for Nintendo’s line of Amiibo (being one of the first games to do so), using custom Miis as playable fighters, post-release downloadable content including additional fighters and stages, and customizable special moves.
The game is playable on the Wii U with a variety of controller options, including the Wii U GamePad, the Wii U Pro Controller, a Wii Remote, the GameCube controller via an adapter, and even a Nintendo 3DS that is running the 3DS version or a special controller software downloadable from the eShop.
