A golden challenge
This rare version of the Golf Tournament US Course on gold disk was a special prize edition release for the Famicom Disk System, featuring a refined golf experience for players who enjoyed Nintendo’s earlier Golf titles. The game offered an authentic golf simulation with courses inspired by real-world US golf locations, challenging players to perfect their swings and aim for the lowest score.
A collectible golden disk edition
Unlike the standard blue disk release, this gold US edition was awarded at a special Nintendo-held tournament held between 14 June to 31 August, 1988. This golden prize card (FSC-GSUE) came with an iconic Disk-kun case, white box, and letter. The number released to the public is likely around 10,000 although that number has not been confirmed.
This version along with it’s Japanese counterpart are considered harder, replacing the courses with new, more challenging holes.
Golf Tournament US Course was developed by HAL Laboratory in collaboration with Nintendo, ensuring the gameplay maintained the solid mechanics and depth expected from a Nintendo golf title.
A test of precision and skill
With strategic club selections, tricky wind conditions, and well-designed courses, the game provided a rewarding experience for golf enthusiasts. The simple yet effective controls made it accessible, but mastering the game required careful planning and precise timing. Whether playing casually or aiming for the best score, Golf Tournament US Course delivered a satisfying golf experience on the Famicom Disk System.
